APPE is a South Indian snack made of mixed pulses and rice.

SEMOLINA APPE is the variation of traditional APPE as it is made of Semolina.

Its a healthier version to snack.


Semolina (sooji)                                     1 cup

Onion                                                     1 medium

Yogurt                                                    2 Tbsp

Green chillies                                         3-4

Coriander                                              Handful (optional)

Corn                                                      1 cup

Salt                                                        As per taste

Baking powder                                       1 Tsp

Oil                                                          3-4 Tb spoon or as needed

In a large mixing bowl, add curd and water to Semolina.


Mix gently and keep aside for 2 hours.

Take Onion, Green chillies and coriander chopped finely. Parboil sweet corn.

Add all these material in Semolina.


Also add Salt and Baking powder and mix gently.
Adjust water it should be similar to consistency of Idli batter or dropping consistency.

Heat APPE PATRA on medium flame.

Add a drop of oil in each mould.
Make sure that the pan has become hot.

Pour a spoonful of the batter in each mould.

Keep the lid on so that they steam well. Cover the pan for 1-2 min.
Then turn each Appe upside down using a spoon so as to cook the other side.


Remove the APPE and repeat with the remaining batter.

Serve hot with your favourite chutney.

These APPE tastes awesome even after getting cool.

So they are ideal for kids Tiffin box too.
